Congratulations! You were chosen by a teen to accomonay them in their faith journey before, during and after they recieve the Sacrament of Confirmation!
You were chosen because this teen looks up to you as someone who can be a spiritual coach and mentor in the own faith. This is something that we hope you celebrate and enjoy.
What is a Confirmation Sponsor?
The Church states that "Candiates for Confirmation should seek the spiritual help of a sponsor..” -Catechism of the Catholic church #1311
A sponsor is an active and practicing Catholic who live in harmony with the Catholic Church while seeking to follow Jesus as His disciple and help others do the same. The sponsor's function is to "take care that the person confirmed behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the duties inherent in this sacrament." -Code of Canon Law 892

Sponsors Frequently Asked Questions:
I live far away from the candidate. Can i still be their sponsor?
Absolutely! The monthly 1-on-1 meetings are most impactful in person but are each possible over Facetime, Zoom, or another video chat of your choice.
I don't know enough about the faith. Can I still be their sponsor?
Yes! As long as you meet the other requirements, our monthly 1-on-1 meetings are made to help form and grow not only your teen candiate but you as well.
If I cannot attend the Confirmation Mass, can I still be a Sponsor?
Yes, even if you cannot attend in person for the Confirmation Rite and Mass, you are still able to serve as a sponsor by leading the monthly 1-on-1 meetings with your candidate. The candidate will just need to choose another adult, such as a parent or another family member to stand in as your proxy.
Where should we have our monthly 1-on-1 sit down meetings?
If the sponsor is a family member or trusted family friend who does not serve in youth ministry, then work out a place that works best and is comfortable for all involved.
If the sponsor is an adult that serves in Youth Ministry, it will need to be in a place that meets the safe enviorment standards of where the sponsor is currently serving.
I am a high school candidate, and I do not know who I should choose as a sponsor. Any tips?
Pray about it. Ask God to show you who to choose.
What about your godparent? Whould they be a good choice for you?
Is there a family friend or relative that you feel comfortable praying with and talking about your faith with?
If you still are unsure, we would encourage you to talk about it with your Life Teen Small Group Leader or one of your Youth Ministers.
