Deacon Don Burns, a beloved and well-respected Deacon at St. Laurence Parish, is one of three recipients for Outstanding Clergy of the Year for 2018. Knights of Columbus Chapter President John Hinojosa joined His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo in presenting the award on Friday, February 2nd at the Thirty-Fourth Annual Clergy Appreciation Night.
The Galveston-Houston Chapter of the Knights of Columbus presents the award to Priests and Deacons who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their ministries across the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. The 1,500-seat sold-out event was held at a wonderful new venue this year, the Bayou City Event Center located on Knight Road in Houston.
Deacon Don has been serving local parishes in Sugar Land since 1987. His past assignments have included St. Theresa and St. Thomas Aquinas parishes. He has been serving St. Laurence parish since 2002 and helped to bring ACTS to St. Laurence. In his 30 years of service, Deacon Don’s accomplishments include teaching baptism classes, facilitating a marriage enrichment program, serving in retreats and is a popular speaker at parish seminars. He also serves on the Deacon Personnel Board and is active in the community.
Deacon Don was nominated by members of Reverend John T. Weyer Council #11343 in early December in recognition for his 30 years of devoted pastoral service. Deacon Don Burns is an honorary life member of Reverend John T. Weyer Council #11343 and Bishop Morkovsky Assembly #2243 in Sugar Land.
Deacon Don is married to his wife of 49 years, Sherry, and is a proud grandfather of eight biological and four adopted grandchildren. Congratulations Deacon Don for this worthy achievement!
