Note: This is cutting-edge tech. The quality of your experience is dependent on your device’s capabilities. For a simpler, no-nonsense experience, consider borrowing a church-owned kit.
If you already use hearing aids with your phone, you're already set. Otherwise, sound-isolating earbuds or earphones are recommended. Additionally, going wired instead of Bluetooth will reduce delay.
Download the "Listen WIFI" app to your phone. Do not launch it yet.
Download link: Click here (or search for "Listen WIFI" by Listen Technologies in your phone's app store).
Go to the sanctuary and connect to the ListeningAssist Wifi network.
Wifi name: ListeningAssist
Wifi password: listening
Once connected to the correct Wifi network, launch the Listen WIFI app.
Grant any permissions requested by the app.
You may have to select "Venue Scan". Select "Mass Audio" when presented with the option.
Sound Check
To allow users to verify whether their equipment is working correctly, music is played over the listening assist system starting 15 minutes before until 5 minutes before regularly scheduled weekly masses (including daily masses). Music is not played for masses outside the normal weekly schedule. Even if music is not played, the system is operational at all times the church sound system is on.
Examples:
At a regular Friday 8:15am daily mass, music is played from 8:00am-8:10am.
At a Christmas mass or other Holy Day of Obligation, no music is played since it is not a regularly-scheduled weekly mass.
Troubleshooting
Can't connect to wifi network
Try to connect closer to the sound board (near the parking lot glass doors).
Verify that you are connecting to the network named ListeningAssist, not Parish Guest.
Verify that the password listening has been entered correctly. No capital letters.
Listen WIFI app gives "Unable to Connect" error
Verify that you are still connected to the ListeningAssist wifi network and that your phone hasn't roamed off of it.
Ensure that the Listen WIFI app has been granted necessary permissions in your phone's System Settings, particularly anything relating to network access. You may need to ask a techno-geek for help with this.
Terminate and restart the app: Go to your phone's task switcher and swipe it away, then relaunch the app. You may need to ask a techno-geek for help with this.
Reboot your phone completely (an actual reboot, not just putting it to sleep). Again, you may need to ask a techno-geek for help with this.
If you use a VPN, disconnect from it while you use the Listen WIFI app.
Sound is choppy or skips
You may have poor reception.
Try sitting close to the sound board.
Take your phone out of your pocket
Move your phone away from metal objects
Ensure no other apps are trying to download data at the same time (e.g. podcast apps, email clients, etc.)
Use wired earphones instead of Bluetooth. Most phones will require a headphone adapter since most manufacturers have removed headphone jacks from their phones.
Try rebooting your phone completely. You may need to ask a techno-geek for help with this.
Sound is delayed.
Use wired earphones instead of Bluetooth. Most phones will require a headphone adapter since most manufacturers have removed headphone jacks from their phones.
Alternatively, try earbuds that form a seal against outside sound and prevent you from hearing the natural sound of the church sound system. We recommend the Sony MDR-EX15LP In-Ear Headphones (Black)
Try sitting near the sound board. The worse the reception, the worse the delay.
I hear a double sound due to the natural sound of the church sound system
