"On Sunday, November 18th, I, along with my brother second year theologians, will be installed into the ministry of acolyte by Bishop George Sheltz at St. Mary's Seminary. At Vatican II, many of the minor orders of the Church were left behind, but both lector and acolyte remain. Last Spring, I was installed as a lector by Bishop Seitz of El Paso. This installation provided me with the opportunity to lector for the Church at mass and community prayer. In November, as an installed acolyte, I will be able to purify sacred vessels and serve closer to the altar of the Most Holy Mass. These ministries are important parts of the process of formation because they are required for Holy Orders. Also of note for these ministries is that the Church requires that we each submit a petition to our Ordinary (in my case, Cardinal DiNardo). This is somewhat of a foreshadowing of my future petition for Holy Orders, God-willing. Thank you so much for your continued prayers for my vocation. All of you faithful Catholics at St. Laurence Parish remain very much in my prayers."
