Confirmation 

(for high school students)

Welcome! We are excited that your high school teen is interested in recieving  the Sacrament of Confirmation, and we would love to assit you in this critical point in their lives. 

Confirmation is one of the three Sacraments of initiation in the Catholic Church. In Confirmation, Christians receive a special outpouring and deepening of the spiritual gifts that they received when they were baptized, just like the apostles received on Pentecost. (CCC 1285; 1302) The increase of these spiritual gifts that are received in the Sacrament of Confirmation help the baptized to  live more fully as a disciple of Jesus and share the faith with others. (CCC 1303) 

You can begin preparing for Confirmation when:

• You have already been baptized Catholic
• You are currently a registered and active member of St. Laurence Catholic Church meaning:
  • You currently attend Sunday Mass every weekend
  • You were registered for and attended one of our High School faith formation programs (Life Teen, Family Faith, Home Study) for the 2023-2024 school year.
• in 2024-2025 you will be in at least the tenth grade. 
  • In the Archdiocese of Galvestion-Houston, Confirmation can take place in the 10th grade or older. 

• Register for Confirmation Preparation (Found below)
• Attend the mandatory Teen and Parent Confirmation Information Session:
  • Monday September 16, 2024, 7-8pm 
• Attend Life Teen (Life Teen registration included with Confirmation Preparation registration)  
  • Life Teen is our program for all high schoolers. Here you find a small group to support and grow your faith through Confirmation, as well as for the rest of your time in high school.
  • On the fifth absence (after four absences), an exit assessment/interview will need to take place before the Rite of Confirmation Liturgy.
• Register for and attend a Confirmation Retreat 
  • This year the St. Laurence Confirmation Retreat is December 6-8, 2024.
  • Confirmation retreat has the chance to be one of the best weekends of the year. We get away to Huntsville, TX for ziplining, campfires, messages, friendship, food, and faith.
• Choose a Sponsor
  • In addition to your parents and Life Teen small group leaders, we ask that you choose a sponsor to be a part of your journey. This is another spiritual coach or mentor for you. Choose someone who you admire for their faith and who can help you grow closer to Christ and follow Him throughout the rest of high school and for the rest of your life. Your sponsor should be a Confirmed, practicing Catholic, other than your parent. 
• Attend the Teen and Sponsor meetings online with your sponsor: 
  • Monday November 11, 2024 at either 4-5:30 pm or 7-8:30 pm
    • This meeting will help you and your sponsor understand the expectations of a sponsor.
    • Zoom or Microsoft Teams Online meeting link will be announced at a later date. 
• Select a Confirmation Saint Name
  • Do some research on Saints in the Church. Look into their interests and causes and find a saint who interests you or pertains to you. It can also be a saint you were named after. Your saint name will be the name that you are called when you receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Submit your saint name below. 
• Participate in an exit assessment/interview.
  • Not required for anyone who is absent from the Sunday program four (4) times or less.
• Attend the Penance Service for the Sacrament of Reconciliation:
  • Monday March 10 Arrive anytime between 6:30 and 8:30 pm in the main church. 
• Attend the rehearsal and the Confirmation Mass- Dates TBA later this fall.
