Thank you for considering St. Laurence Catholic School for your child's education. We are pleased that you took time to come by and visit with us. Below you will find admissions policies and procedures in effect for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year. We hope this information will be useful in answering your questions about St. Laurence Catholic School.
CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
St. Laurence Catholic School offers a strong Catholic education for average to above average students at all grade levels. Texas Essential Elements, along with Diocesan Curriculum Guides, serves as the base curriculum. Educators at St. Laurence align their curriculum with both state and diocesan curriculum guidelines as well as the mission and philosophy of St. Laurence Catholic School. Religion is taught to all students at all grade levels. Human sexuality is taught as part of religion each year under the guidelines of the diocese.
Special education classes, Chapter1/remedial programs, gifted or advanced classes, ESL/Bilingual instruction, modified pace classes and behavior control classes are not available at St. Laurence Catholic School. Arrangements for individual or small group instruction and speech therapy sessions are offered on campus at extra cost once need is determined. The school reserves the right to ask a student to leave the school at any time due to the inability of the school to meet the academic and/or behavioral needs of the student.
SKILL BUILDER PROGRAM
The Skill Builder Program provides assistance to students with special needs or students requiring tutoring in academic areas. A teacher and/or a parent may recommend students for participation in the program. Students, who meet any of the following criteria, must be enrolled in the program for continued enrollment in school.
- Students with an IEP (Individual Education Plans) from public, private or local sources that state this need as part of a child’s plan of action at the school.
- Students who score below the 50th percentile in reading or math on the SAT10.
