URGENT NEEDS: BASIC NEEDS ITEMS

The Catholic Charities Mamie George Community Center in Richmond is currently experiencing a shortage of in-kind donations for their basic needs program & pantry and are reaching out to area churches and businesses for assistance.  MGCC provides food, rent, utilities, medication and financial assistance and support services aimed at returning individuals and families to self-sufficiency. As they help relieve the overwhelming stress that comes from the lack of basic needs, those in crisis are better able to work towards self-sufficiency.  MGCC is in need of the following items:

  • Single packaged PAPER TOWELS
  • 4 packs TOILET PAPER
  • 32 oz. DISHWASHING LIQUID (Dawn, Palmolive, etc.)
  • 25 oz. ALL PURPOSE CLEANER (Pine-Sol, Fabuloso, etc.)
  • 25 oz. LAUNDRY DETERGENT
  • TOOTHPASTE
  • TOOTHBRUSHES
Donations can be left at the parish office, marked MGCC or at the Social Concerns office.  If you would prefer, a monetary or gift card (HEB, Kroger or Wal-Mart) donation can be made via Sunday collection.  Mark envelopes: SCM-MGCC and make checks payable to: St. Laurence.  We have shoppers available to make the purchases.
 

CURRENT NEED: PARKS YOUTH RANCH PROJECTS

Are you a Scout looking for an Eagle project?  A handyman looking for a way to volunteer?  If so, the Parks Youth Ranch Homeless Shelter needs some assistance building cubbie-style storage in the bedrooms.  For more information, contact the Executive Director, Shannon Bloesch at 832-390-4797 or  sbloesch@parksyouthranch.org.

DONATIONS FOR MAMIE GEORGE COMMUNITY CENTER

Here are some easy ways to help right now. Just mark donations as directed below and drop in the parish office or the Social Concerns office. If you would like a tax receipt for your donation, please leave a note attached to the outside of the bag or box with your name & address and we will gladly send you one. Thank you!
 

Gracious Gifts

Gracious Gifts, the gift shop in the Catholic Charities Mamie George Community Center, is in need of new or very gently used gift items.  Gracious Gifts provides low cost gift items for the poor & elderly in the area to purchase gifts for their loved ones. Donations can be dropped at the parish or Social Concerns offices marked - MGCC - for Mamie George Community Center.

Suggested donations: 

  • Jewelry (especially trendy items),
  • Bath sets (bath & body works type),
  • Men’s & women’s wallets, scarves,
  • New decorative candles or picture frames,
  • Inspirational books, crosses, etc. 


Trini's Corner Market

Trini’s Corner Market, a food pantry with grocery at the Catholic Charities Mamie George Community Center, is in need of fresh food items. Please drop donations M-Tu-Wed to the Social Concerns Ministry or parish office. This benefits Mamie George and the Parks Youth Ranch.

  • Fresh produce (non-refrigerated items) i.e. apples, oranges, pineapples, etc.
  • bread

  • tortillas

 

DONATIONS FOR SOCIAL CONCERNS MINISTRY

Toiletry Items

Just mark donations as - SCM - and drop in the parish office or the Social Concerns office. We especially need the mini TOOTHPASTE.  For various Social Concerns Ministry projects.

  • lotion, etc. 

 

Items For the Troops

These donations are for care packages for our troops serving overseas.  Mark donation: TROOPS.

  • Beef jerky, tuna or chicken (soft packets)
  • nuts
  • dried fruit
  • peanut butter crackers
  • sugarless gum (tropical, orange or bubble gum)
  • black, green or tan cotton crew socks
  • protein bars
  • individual size Gold Bond Powder

Coupons for a Cause

Sunday Coupon inserts for our Coupons for a Cause program.  Drop off in parish office or the basket on hospitality table in church narthex.
