Elementary CCE Home Study Program

ELEMENTARY (GRADES 1-5)

Elementary CCE Home Study families will use the same RCL textbook series, Be My Disciples, that is used in the weekly CCE program.   Be My Disciples is a Christ-centered curriculum which emphasizes learning and practicing the skills and habits, virtues and spiritual gifts that lead young disciples to higher levels of moral thinking.   This series teaches the pillars of the Catechism - Creed, Sacraments, Morality, and Prayer - every year in every grade level.  Each year, children will build upon and reinforce what they have previously learned with the summary section at the end of each unit including a "Connect With Scripture" and "Be A Disciple" exercise, focusing upon the following unit themes:

We Believe: The Creed
We Worship: Liturgy, Sacraments and Prayer
We Live: Christian Morality
We Celebrate: The Liturgical Year
Catholic Prayers and Practices

Catechists and parents have access to a variety of resources provided by RCL, including access to the Be My Disciples website:  www.bemydisciples.com   This website provides an amazing amount of content and links to help develop lessons and faith formation. Families may access this website to further explore or enhance their weekly lessons.

RECEIVING CREDIT FOR HOME STUDY

PLEASE NOTE:  It is our expectation that in choosing the Home Study option for religious education that you are committed to teaching your child the Catholic faith and to reviewing the lessons together.

To ensure that your child will be given credit for his/her Home Study year, we are asking that you submit throughout the academic year in question a minimum of 10 completed Chapter Reviews.  In order to both ensure the greatest benefit for your child and provide the necessary foundation for moving forward in formation, however, it is suggested that at least 15-18 of the recommended chapters be studied at home in order to adequately cover the year's material.  Please note that completion of the minimum requirement counts as the necessary prerequisite for First Sacrament Preparation registration.
